CHILDREN AVAILABLE:  Six years and older, with Caucasian, Asian, and Mediterranean appearances. Sibling groups available.  Travel to Kiev for an interview in the Ministry where family will receive photos and information on available children. Testing for HIV, hepatitis and syphilis.  Some children will need medical and/or developmental intervention. Even healthy children may have negative-sounding medical reports.  Family can hire doctor in Kiev to travel to orphanage to assess child.  More boys are available than girls.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  Two trips to Ukraine required.  First trip will be approximately 2 – 3 weeks, family comes home for 2 ½ weeks, then one parent returns to Ukraine for about ten days.  Alternatively, family can stay and complete the adoption process in one trip which is approx. 35 days. Coordinators, drivers and translators will be provided.  Children already in the home may travel. 

LENGTH OF PROCESS:  Preparation of adoption dossier takes 2 – 3 months.  It takes a few months to get dossier filed in Ukraine.  Parents make first trip approx. three to four months later. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:  Flexible, although generally there may be no more than a 45 year age difference between the adoptive mother and the child. Couples should be married for at least two years.  Singles are not eligible.
