Our
adoption story started like everyone else's - a search for the perfect adoption
agency. We had no idea where to start. We talked to friends who had
adopted and they gave us their best advice. We talked to more acquaintances that
gave us names of adoption agencies. Then a prayer was answered when another
friend told us about an ad in a local newspaper advertising adopting infant
girls from China. We went to an informational meeting but were not moved to go
any farther with that agency. We were then told about Catholic Charities and
their involvement with adoption. That led us to Catholic Charities of
Harrisburg, PA, which ultimately connected us with Cradle of Hope Adoption
Center.
After successful completion of all of the required paperwork,
which was submitted to China, we began the 9-month wait for our daughter. When
we received our referral, Cradle of Hope took over where Catholic Charities left
off. The people at Cradle were nothing less than outstanding. Not one area was
left unexplained. We felt absolutely 100% comfortable traveling to China. The rest of the adoption process couldn't
have gone smoother. We traveled with one other couple, which was very nice. And
since our return from China, we have planned several vacations with this couple
and have become very good friends. Large group travel is something we wanted to
avoid. It is one of Cradle's strong points - their
small travel groups. When we
were in China, we received a phone call from someone at Cradle about every other
day making sure that all was going well. It was very comforting to know they too
were keeping tabs on us from so far away.
When we arrived home two weeks later, Cradle was still there making sure all was going well. Each year they have a China picnic bringing many adoptive families together as well as families waiting to adopt. They also have a picnic, usually in September, for all of there adoptive families. We have made some wonderful friends at Cradle and feel confident these friendships will last a lifetime. We have just started our paperwork for our second adoption and wouldn't think of going to any other adoption agency other than Cradle of Hope.
